Master's Thesis: Designing Better Products for In-Home Care
For my master's thesis, I developed a methodology of designing products for those receiving care in their own homes as the result of illness or aging, through the design of a commode chair. I consulted with Occupational Therapists, researched various studies on the effects of receiving and giving care in the home, and explored the untapped possibilities of toilet design. This research culminated in an object that reflects a modern furniture aesthetic while being completely functional as a portable commode. The research was conducted over the course of 12 months and is documented in a book that I also designed and printed, which is available in the NSCAD University repository here.
